Do you have garlic you harvested last summer and wondering what to make with it? Research shows garlic has multiple health benefits when consumed as part of your regular diet. Why not boost your immunity and improve your heart health by adding garlic to your diet.

Caesar salad is one of our favourites all year round. This recipe is quick and easy to make and packed full of flavour. If you have dietary restrictions, just substitute the mayonnaise with something that meets your dietary restrictions.

Fresh garlic has so much flavour. Try crushing your own garlic instead of buying crushed garlic in a jar. You may be surprised!

What type of lettuce should I use to make Caesar Salad?

Historically Caesar Salad has been made with crunchy romaine lettuce, creamy dressing, croutons and grated Parmesan cheese. Due to the rising cost of romaine lettuce, many restaurants have begun substituting romaine lettuce with different types of lettuce like kale. It really is a matter of taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (I use Miracle Whip)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 heaping tablespoons Parmesan cheese
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a mason jar or container:
  2. Shake ingredients until well mixed. The dressing will appear creamy.
  3. You can add croutons, sliced boiled egg, grilled chicken, bacon bits, and Parmesan cheese.  You could even turn your salad into a wrap.

This dressing can be used right away or prepared ahead of time. It’s best to use within 3 days. You can half the recipe with no problem at all.

Can you eat leftover Caesar Salad?

Caesar salad needs to be served immediately once the dressing has been added.  The texture of the salad changes as it sits.  Mix your salad just before you plan to eat it.  It’s not nice the next day.  It will go soggy.

To make meal prep faster for the following day, I leave lettuce washed in the refrigerator wrapped in tea towels. The lettuce then just needs to be dried and broken into smaller pieces. One less step when you’re busy.

Would you like to learn to grow your own garlic at home?

Growing garlic is an easy introduction to growing your own food.  Garlic is planted in the fall and harvested the following July.  Make sure you check out ‘How To Plant Garlic For Beginners‘. Next year at this time you will be enjoying garlic you harvested all on your own.
